Chicken Races

2026 Chicken Race HIATUS

We are sad to announce that the chicken races will be on a hiatus in 2026. Our trusted chicken race coordinators have prior family obligations on Stomp Saturday. Since the McNutt Family rules the roost at Memorial Park, with such big shoes to fill we have made the difficult decision to put a pause on the chicken races this year. We look forward to this Stomp-staple returning in 2027!

Need new plans for high noon to kick-off your Stomp Saturday?! Grab some Stomp-sustenance and stop for a bite and beverage at one (or a few) of our beloved Stomp Sponsor establishments before Stomp Stops open at 3pm!

chicken races at high noon (a history)…

The Chicken Race is a semi-annual shenanigan-filled event that pops up in a Sunnyland park to provide entertainment and community connection for our many poultry-loving neighbors. The first Chicken Race happened in the 3rd or 4th year of the Stomp in Sunnyland Park, and continued in that location until 2015. When new organizers took over the event in 2016, the Chicken Race took a brief hiatus, but it made a triumphant return in 2017 and had a good run in a new location in Memorial Park until the Stomp itself took a pause during the pandemic. The chicken races were undoubtedly missed as a staple of Stomp Saturday in 2023, and we are thrilled to have the races return.
